Bunch of Chinese Websites Got Hacked: Bunch of Chinese websites including developer-skewing CSDN, gaming portal Duowan and so on, social networking service Renren and Kaixin001 are said to be the targets of next round of attack. So far this is the largest hacking incident that happened here.

Sina Spins off Shopping Engine Next Year: Sina will spin off its own shopping engine Yiqisoo.com in Febr. of 2012 as the latest addition to the price engine area to compete with Etao (by Taobao) and Youdao Shopping Engine (by NetEase).

NetEase Launches Coupon Site: NetEase stealthily launches its coupon site quan.163.com to step its toes into the referral business with more than 130 Chinese etailers on board (including 360buy, Yihaodian and Vancl) offering over 1 million coupons that worth RMB 57 million (US$ 9 million). One differentiation is that NetEases coupon program is based on its leading email service. As of now the Guangzhou-based company claims over 430 million users.

Kingsoft Execs Quit for Own Cause: Two execs of iCiba, the dictionary business of Kingsoft quitted the ailing subsidiary for their own startup. Wang Haiming and Tong Hexin (CTO of iCiba) left the company to start an online education startup Chuanke.com that lets teachers upload their lectures for paid watch. Chuanke has received angel investment.

Weixin Claims 50 Million users: Weixin, Tencents mobile communication app claims more than 50 million users (20 million active users), the largest of its kind in China. Miliao, a similar service by Xiaomi Tech has about 7 million users as of now. Tencent has invested RMB 100 m! illion ( US$ 15.7 million) into Weixin.
